In this age of technology it is important to be able to offer a number of different resumes depending on how and to whom your resume is going to be presented.
You will need to be ready for almost any request. Most of the time if you are sending your resume in this era of high-speed communication you will do it in an electronic format. Recruiters and Human Resources departments today are set up to open almost any attached documents, yet if you want to be sure, you should be able to save your resume in many different formats, including ASCII, HTML, Word, etc.
Hiring Managers on the other hand may request the document to be emailed to them in advance. They are usually only able to open those programs that are resident on their machine. With that in mind you should normally confirm the correct format ahead of time.

Present the facts as they relate to your accomplishments and do not get too verbose in doing so. You should always start with your most current position and work back from that point .... but it is not necessary to go back to your first part-time job in high school.
You should make sure you are covering the key steps to your successes, especially in those more current, more sophisticated jobs. It is important not to say too much, so focus on the key points in your success.
Further, in regards to content, do not be overtly flashy but rather border on the conservative. The tone should be that of a conversation as opposed to an outline format. Do not sacrifice content for length and make sure you say what needs to be said to state your accomplishments.
